  • U. S. Air Force Capt. Brian Crismore, right, an A-10 pilot from the 332nd Expeditionary Fighter Squadron (from the 75th Fighter Squadron at Pope AFB, North Carolina), gives the thumbs up to a friendly group of Iraqi workers he met while surveying the Iraqi air base at Karkuk.  Crismore was part of a survey team sent to the base to assess it's use for A-10 fighters. The locals were hired to haul away scrap and debris from the Air Base.Capt. A few minutes earlier, a 120mm morter shell started to smoke while they were recovering a field covered with the morter shells on a soccer field next to neighborhood in the northern Iraqi city of Karkuk.
